Change of Major Dates

  • Change of Major application for Spring 2027 opens: December 7, 2026
  • Deadline to apply for Major Change for Spring 2027: January 6, 2027
  • Students in their first semester at VT must wait until after final grades have posted.

Academic Planning Workshops to develop an academic plan using HokieGPS - Graduation Plan for Success. Advising Ambassadors are excited to assist you through online academic planning tools and provide information about advising resources.

Transitional Advising available for students who need assistance with transition between majors.

With more than 100 different majors and a wide variety of minors offered at Virginia Tech, choosing the right academic path can be a difficult decision. Whether you're still deciding on a major, considering a second major, or thinking about adding a minor, the Majors and Minors Fair is a great place for current Virginia Tech undergraduate students to explore.

Hosted by Academic Advising and Transition Support and Career and Professional Development, this annual event includes over 70 informational tables representing majors, minors, and special programs from across the university. You'll have the opportunity to connect with advisors, faculty, and current students. You can ask questions and explore how different programs align with your interests, strengths, and career goals.

Unfortunately, no, this fair is specifically designed for current Virginia Tech students. If you are a prospective student, we recommend you look into attending the Majors Fair during Open House weekends. 

Nope! The event is drop-in and open to all students. Come and go anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Bring your Hokie Passport and your curiosity! You might also want to have a list of majors or minors you're interested in, or specific questions you want to ask.

Definitely. Many students attend to explore a second major, a minor, or to learn about special programs and other academic opportunities.

The fair is in-person only, but if you're unable to attend, we encourage you to follow up with your academic advisor or visit the Academic Catalog to explore programs online.

Yes, many departments will have giveaways and materials to help you learn more about their programs. Come early for the best selection!
