Academic Support Services

The following offices provide services to all VT undergraduates at no additional cost. Click on a link to learn more about each service, and to make an appointment.

  • Career and Professional Development (CPD) provides services, programs, and resources to students from their first year to graduation to discover and pursue meaningful opportunities that lead to a fulfilling career.
  • CommLab provides training and assistance for public speaking, such as oral presentations and group projects.
  • Cook Counseling Center offers services such as group therapy, individual therapy, psychiatry, outreach, TimelyCare, outreach, and training to VT students.
  • The Global Education Office provides services for students interested in studying abroad and participating in global and intercultural experiences.
  • The Student Success Center (SSC) provides course tutoring, academic coaching, workshops, and study spaces to help students succeed in their academic work.
  • Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) coordinates short and long-term individualized accommodations for students with disabilities and works to ensure that students receive equal access to curricular and co-curricular opportunities in the academic community.
  • The Writing Center helps students with their writing—from initial brainstorming to final draft editing—for classwork as well as any written work outside of class.

Special Populations

  • The Corps of Cadets operates as a senior military college, providing leadership and military training to its cadets throughout their time at VT.
  • The Honors College is a specialized academic community focusing on experiential learning, interdisciplinary studies, and collaborative discovery.
  • Student-Athletic Academic Support Services supports students in balancing their academic and athletic demands. SAASS provides comprehensive academic support to over 550 students across 22 sports.
  • Transfer Students constitute a significant portion of the Virginia Tech student population--Each year, around 1,100-1,400 students transfer to Virginia Tech from community colleges, two-year colleges, and four-year universities.
